COMBAT ZONE

"I wasn't scared of Skid Row," Sugar shared from the streets of Los Angeles as she prepared her fentanyl. "Because I came from Boston's Combat Zone. At 14 I was raped by five guys - because of their age they only got probation. My dad was going to kill those boys - we had to stop him. I wasn't the same after that. I spent a lot of time in the streets. I ran away from home. My dad would come look for me, but I did it so many times he finally stopped looking. An oriental man took me in. He was like a father to me. He treated me like his own daughter. He was very good to me, but eventually I ran away from him too. I was 19 when a black man took me in. He tied me to a bed and beat me with a coat hanger. I hated myself. WATCH OUT!"

Sugar smashed the bowl of a glass pipe, then used what was left of the stem to inhale the vapors from the fentanyl she heated on tinfoil.
