BLACK HILLS
"The Black Hills is our home," Richard explained from the streets of Rapid City, South Dakota. "We go all over the world, but we come back. Because this is our home. We love our home. But we were pushed onto the Reservation where we don't want to be."

CHARLIE BROWN
In the streets of Rapid City, South Dakota he is well known as Charlie Brown. This is one of the last photos I took of him. His daughter reached out today: "Hi, do you remember me? You helped me find my dad from your page. Arthur Brown. Me and my dad got a place so we can be together and I can take care of him. Thank you, cause of you we are finally gonna be living together. I'm happy you met him, he's doing so much better." Arthur, and his daughter Trista, are doing well.

TO LIVE
This is the last photo I ever took of Fez (Junior). Many people have commented and messaged, sharing positive memories and stories of friendship (including two mutual friends that Fez and I shared). I'm sharing this, in color and raw, as I last saw him. I prefer to walk our streets alone, but I didn't mind if this man wanted to walk with me. He was full of good energy. He was full of life. He was dealt a hard hand, and he died young, but he also truly lived.

MAHTO
It was very late, and I remember wondering to myself when and where I would sleep, when I first met Mahto Fire Thunder in the streets of Rapid City, South Dakota. He was a talented artist and shared with me some of his work. We joked and laughed. He danced, and we laughed a lot more. When I walked away from Mahto that night, I was no longer sleepy. I learned today from a mutual friend of ours that he died, and a relative of Mahto's confirmed it. He was 43 when I took this pho

CHUNS
It was late when I ran into Patrick Dreaming Bear in the streets of Rapid City, South Dakota. After we embraced he asked, "Got a smoke?" "I might have a pack of chuns." I hadn't seen Dreaming Bear in a minute. For him I was happy to take off my backpack, to give something to my friend. "How you been?" "Okay. Helping my moms. She's at Star Village. Staying there with her, making sure she's taken care of. I still come out here sometimes. This is where my friends are."

"I'm trying to find work," Jacob shared from the streets of Rapid City, South Dakota. "Putting in applications to any place hiring. Put one in at KFC today. I'm hoping to get that job, but I just got out of jail. Served 277 days. A month before I went in, my mom died. While I was in, my dad died. Cancer took Mom. Alcohol poisoning took Dad."
